What is « global civil society » ? Which forces lead a large number of actors of civil society to get involved in global governance by the side of the States ?
The emergence of a global civil society has been proclaimed on many occasions since the 1990s. But what is the reality ? This is the question which the book aims to answer via a selection of recent texts (translated into French) from the Global Civil Society Yearbook, a guide to all aspects of contemporary civil society, published annually by the London School of Economics.
Completing each text, french researchers express their point of view, thus initiating a lively dialogue between different schools of thoughts. On global issues such as water, oil, agriculture, civil and politic rights promotion, this book discribes, beyond ideological struggles, the forces leading a large number of actors of civil society to get involved in global governance by the side of the States.
